I hope the weekend finds you well, dear reader. Summer is on it’s way to the northern hemisphere, and I couldn’t be happier about that. Frikkin’ love summer! The return of Tan Stevie!
Troubles still abound here in Japan, of course. The Fukushima Daiichi nuke plant situation is a mismanaged mess of monstrous proportions that continues to hang over the country like a thick black cloud. At least I can buy milk again. The stores here in Tokyo are better stocked now than they have been in weeks. Truth be told, though, I’ve had other things on my mind. Things like deadlines.
On Friday, I managed to finish (at last!) the short story that I lost a while ago in that damned cogitator frak-up (see earlier post). Said short is now in the hands of my editor. Once Dark Lord Kymey has read through it and no doubt made copious notes, it’s on to the final polish and then to publication (possibly in a future issue of Hammer and Bolter). I’ll keep you posted regarding where and when it’s going to show up.
It was rough returning to a story I had already written and lost. My motivation took a huge knock at first, especially as I’m itching to bring you all more Deathwatch material, among other things, but once I settled in and started enjoying myself again, it all came rushing back out onto the screen. I don’t want to give too much away here, but I will say that it’s not a Space Marine, tank or trooper story, at least not in the strictest sense. It is, however, typically dark and violent for 40k. There are even some elements I may be asked to edit out. We’ll see.
For now, it’s on to other things; both a new Guard short that I’m really psyched about, and the resumption of my Deathwatch duties.
Talking of Deathwatch, you might not be aware of this yet, but my most recent Talon Squad short is now available as a stand-alone e-publication. So, if you didn’t pick up Hammer and Bolter Issue 2 or Victories of the Space Marines, you can still get Exhumed H E R E. A quid fifty? For more Talon Squad? Sign me up, you cry! Just don’t ask me why they used a Grey Knight on the cover.
I must admit, I quite like the idea of BL offering the Hammer and Bolter shorts as individual e-books. More choice is always a good thing, right? Oh, and in case you’re not convinced that you should part with your cash, check out THIS REVIEW from Graeme’s Fantasy Book Review. I’ll never understand how that guy gets through so many books. Damn, he’s fast.
Right, that’ll do for now, I think. Next time around, I may be in a position to tell you all about something else I have in the works – something gaming-related! Until then…
